The arrival in Australia of two Spaniards was the excuse to assemble a stellar line-up of Australian musicians at The Tote over the two nights. Gorka Munster and Juan Ittararte have a passionate love for underground Australian rock music and established Bang! Records issuing high quality vinyl releases of Australian artists such as Spencer P Jones, Ian Rilen, Beasts of Bourbon, Bored, Penny Ikinger, The Scientists and many more. This has been a labour of love and has laid the ground work for many Australian performers the opportunity to tour throughout Europe on a regular basis.

So when Gorka and Juan headed to Australia a stable of their artists put on a two night party at the home of Melbourne rock n roll, The Tote.

Friday night was headlined by Kim Salmon & The Surrealists – they took the crowd on a rock n roll journey from the avante-gard through to full throttle rock!

Also on the bill were the Sacred Cowboys, who rarely play as Gary Gray has been based in France for many years – the Cowboys were in fine form breathing life into gems of songs such as Twisted Nerve and Nothing Grows in Texas.

A highlight of the night was the Seminal Rats coming out of retirement to rattle through a blistering set of high octane rock’n'roll. They filled the Cobra Room to the brim and there was literally sweat dripping from the walls. They were followed up by Bored! – the with many patrons missing out as it was impossible to cram any more bodies into the limited space.

Others on the bill who rounded out the evening were The Meanies, Green Mist, Stu Thomas and Leadfinger.

A mighty fine night of rock n roll! Salut!
