I’ve had the opportunity to do some photography for the 2008 Homeless World Cup soccer tournament being held in Melbourne at Federation Square this week.
What a fantastic event! What it is is a fast and furious brand of soccer played on a pitch a little larger than a tennis court, with four players on field for each team and two seven minute halves. What’s even more special is that all players were homeless and the street soccer program has given them vital assistance to restore their self worth and belief and to reconnect and reintegrate into society. There are 56 teams from around the world in attendance and 8 womens teams.
So if you have a spare half hour or more I suggest you head along to Fed Square over the weekend and check out the action. Full details can be seen at the Homeless World Cup website.
Some of my photos from the Homeless World Cup can be seen here.
