Commencing with a VIP launch on Thursday 20th of August 2009, The Raw Gallery in South Melbourne is pleased to present its debut Photographic exhibition – a showcase aimed at celebrating iconic Australian musicians from the 1960s through to today.

Rose Tattoo by Richard Sharman
This free exhibition will be open to the public over a period of four weeks from Friday the 21st August until Wednesday 16th of September.
Unlike their international contemporaries, the brilliant work of Australia’s finest “home-grown” rock photographers from the past five decades has largely gone unrecognised and unheralded. Despite this, photographers working in the Australian music industry have managed to produce a large collection of outstanding imagery charting the progression of our most talented and best-loved musicians.
The shots featured in this exhibition have graced album covers, promotional material and magazine articles over the years however, this is the first time many of these images – and more besides – have been assembled together, exhibited and made available to the public as limited edition Fine Art prints.
The exhibition features the work of Philip Morris, Wendy McDougall, Greg Noakes, Colin Beard, Richard Sharman, Kim Tonelli, David Corio, Craig Goldman, Kirsty Umback and highly regarded contemporary Melbourne talent Kane Hibberd. The Raw Gallery will be displaying over 30 archival quality prints, featuring such subjects as Nick Cave and the Birthday Party, AC/DC, The Church, The Presets, Cold Chisel, Paul Kelly, The Easybeats, INXS and many more. This is the first exhibition of its kind in Australia. However, this is by no means a definitive anthology of Australian artists, only a representative sample of the diverse and high-quality material available through The Raw Gallery.
