The Age EG Awards once again proved to be the place to showcase some of the best Australian music going around. Who needs some international blow-in to give awards some appeal when you have Painters and Dockers reforming to play to a full house at the Prince of Wales?

The night kicked into gear with The Dacios delivering some killer rock’n'roll, before the awards were presented. The EG All Stars band then took to the stage and were joined by some of Australia’s finest musicians including Tex Perkins, The Wolfgramm Sisters, Henry Wagons, Bertie Blackman and Dan Sultan. This was just the calm before the storm when Painters and Dockers unleashed their mayhem on a Melbourne stage for only the second time in 20 years (their first appearance was for the Lobby Loyde benefit concert). And what a show they put on!

Photos from the night can be seen below (click the picture for full slideshow).

The awards decided by people voting and with over 38,000 votes cast the winners were:

Best Home Grown New Talent – Diafrix

Best Tour – Neil Young

Best Song – Sweet Disposition (The Temper Trap)

Best Group – Wagons

Best Male – Paul Dempsey

Best Female – Kate Miller-Heidke

Best Album – Wagons – The Rise and Fall of Goodtown

As well as the yearly awards, Painters and Dockers were inducted into the EG Hall of Fame.
